No More Excuses

Suggested solutions

This program focuses on youth within the age range of 11 through 18 who have typically had poor or sporadic school attendance and low academic performance in their previous educational history.

The goals of this program is to increase school attendance, improve current academic skills, enhance self-esteem, and educational attitudes in students who have dropped out of high school, and may have no other opportunity in completing a high school education.

MCL has adopted a variety of programming features, and services within a comprehensive model to allow every student to be successful in his or her education. These developments include a supportive non-traditional school structure, a small student-teacher ratio, individualized learning, student contracting, intensive counseling, vocational skill training, and a diagnostic prescriptive teaching process.

MCL's model will provide a design for replication of educational strategies, which reinforce the efforts called for by the National Goals for Education. Using the Model, any alternative school can develop an appropriate afterschool program within the framework of local needs and resources.

The Ignorance Stops Here

The purpose of the school tour is to integrate existing research and carry out new research about the dropout problem in California, and to use that research to generate a set of policy recommendations to address the problem, while inspiring each child that they can live and extend themselves beyond their current reality.

The project is premised on three propositions:

  1. Improving the high school graduation rate in California will require improving educational practice.
  2. Improving educational practice with effective state policy recommendation.
  3. Producing effective state policy from timely and focused research.

This project will generate useful and timely information about the nature of-and potential solutions to-the dropout problem in California. It will also help create and sustain political interest in the issue through a public information campaign. We will also focus on dissemination exit strategies for High School students at each school.

The "Ignorance Stops Here" tour is designed to make students aware that post-secondary education are voluminous and the opportunities are timeless with a little strive and determination. By providing the youth with encouragement and knowledge, we hope to increase their interest in their education and their future.
